Big Conversations, Bold Ambitions: Your AoR at the Integrated Healthcare Collaborative

Big Conversations, Bold Ambitions: Your AoR at the Integrated Healthcare Collaborative

The AoR has a seat at the table, and we’re using it! As a board member of the Integrated Healthcare Collaborative (IHC), we work alongside other leading therapy associations to tackle the tough questions facing our profession, stay ahead in a fast-moving world, and push complementary therapies firmly into the integrated healthcare arena. Our latest meeting was packed with valuable discussion, and here’s what’s on the agenda.

Single Sex Services: Getting Clarity on a Hot Topic

Many therapists would like to treat only clients of the same sex as themselves, and it’s one of the most talked-about issues in our field. The legal framework is set out in the Equality Act 2010 (Equality Act 2010 – Single Sex Services), but how it should be interpreted is far less clear.

The IHC has been digging deep into this. Several associations have even sought legal advice, and the verdict is striking: because no legal precedent has yet been set in the UK for this part of the legislation, not even a solicitor can give a definitive answer.

So what does this mean for you? If you choose to offer single sex treatments, the AoR recommends that you have a strong, clear justification that mirrors the clauses laid out in the Equality Act 2010.

EU Supplement Rules: Changes on the Horizon

The EU is pushing forward a directive and consultation that could restrict the maximum permitted levels of ingredients in supplements. Vitamin D is just one of many that could be affected, with the current permitted level of 800iu potentially being cut to a maximum of 400iu.

This could have a real impact on herbalists, homeopaths and any therapists who prescribe or recommend vitamins and supplements. We’re keeping a close eye on developments through the IHC and will bring you the latest as soon as there’s news.

Making Our Voice Heard in Politics

The IHC is taking our cause straight to the decision-makers, calling on the political parties to set out their positions on the provision and availability of therapies like ours through the NHS. Responses have been slow so far, but the IHC isn’t letting up and will keep pressing for answers.

Watch This Space

Being part of the IHC means the AoR is right at the heart of the conversations shaping the future of our profession. We’ll keep you updated every step of the way!
