This course aims to prepare reflexologists to confidently, compassionately, and competently support clients who are approaching the end of life. In a society where death is frequently medicalised and removed from everyday experience, the course invites reflexologists to engage openly with the realities of dying. It promotes the development of advanced communication skills, therapeutic presence, and critical self-reflection, enabling practitioners to support clients and their families with sensitivity and assurance during this deeply significant stage of life.
Students will gain:
• A comprehensive understanding of death and dying, including its physiological, emotional, legal, and social dimensions
• An overview of the palliative care infrastructure, including the roles of hospices, hospitals, and community-based services
• Practical guidance on preparing for death, covering both legal aspects—such as wills and lasting powers of attorney—and the emotional and physical adjustments associated with increasing dependency
• Specific reflexology treatment protocols for end-of-life care, developed by Calming Influences
• Guidance on adapting treatments for clients living with complex and chronic conditions, including cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s, COPD, cancer, and debilitating arthritis
• An understanding of the ageing process and how it impacts the body, with clear strategies for modifying treatments accordingly
• Holistic lifestyle advice tailored to clients with specific illnesses and those receiving palliative or end-of-life care
• A reflective exploration of the practitioner’s role in end-of-life support, emphasising the importance of compassionate touch, therapeutic communication, and emotional presence in alleviating suffering
This course combines knowledge, skill, and reflective practice to equip reflexologists for meaningful, safe, and respectful care.
