Special Treatment
Licence Exception

“London Borough Free Special Treatment License Fee”

In some areas of the UK (Greater London Boroughs, Essex and the City of Hereford), special treatment licenses are required for businesses that provide treatments such as acupuncture, tattooing, and other complementary therapies including reflexology. Some local councils issue these licenses to ensure that businesses comply with health and safety regulations.

If you live in any London Borough, and are a member, you will be exempt from having to pay this license fee as the association has negotiated on our members’ behalf – potentially saving you hundreds of pounds a year.

If you work in Essex or the City of Hereford, you will need to contact your local council regarding the cost of a Special License.

It is often required for roles that involve working with children or vulnerable adults. As a member of the Association of Reflexologists, you have access to an enhanced DBS check service, which can benefit reflexologists working with clients in these categories.
Enhanced DBS checks are not a general requirement for reflexologists, but there are times you may need or choose to have one. The AoR’s enhanced DBS check service is easy to use, cost-effective, and provides peace of mind for practitioners and clients.
