Description: How to create a more successful and busier practice by incorporating the ART techniques into existing modalities. Discussing the history of ART and how the techniques were created. My focus will be to relate the experiences I have had in reflexology since I first began to practice in 1972. I have had like many, my share of confusion, frustration, disappointments and failures, which I know confront many in the early stages of their experiences of reflexology. I have had the great opportunity to have travelled to most parts of the world giving lectures and treating patients which gave me invaluable experience. Another incredible “bonus” was to have worked closely with the medical profession where, apart from having hundreds of patients referred to me, I took part in a clinical trial which proved how beneficial reflexology can be, particularly in the treatment of certain gynaecological conditions. I have noted that really successful reflexologists have certain qualities about them. Effective techniques are of course vital, but if these are not matched by a confident attitude of mind, your effectiveness as a reflexologist will be neutralised! An important part of ART is to give our students this professional confidence, this reflects back to their patients who will feel they are in ‘good hands’. This confidence combined with effective techniques creates a busy, successful and rewarding practice. I have created many of the ART techniques others I have adapted from existing protocols. An important message that I always mention, is that people do not need to be ill to have reflexology; in fact it should be used to keep people well. Treatments do not have to be one hour in duration. In fact it is quite possible and often much better for the patients (particularly in a clinical situation) if shorter treatments of perhaps 20 – 30 minutes are given on a more frequent basis. This makes it more affordable and more effective therapeutically. |

| Description: Vertical Reflex Therapy (VRT) is a profound reflexology technique where the dorsal foot and hand reflexes are briefly treated in a standing/weight-bearing position. It was discovered and developed in the mid-1990’s by Lynne Booth and VRT complements and enhances all conventional reflexology treatments. It can treat all conditions very effectively although musculo-skeletal issues often respond the quickest. This seminar will focus on the needs of working with chronically sick older people and will address the field of palliative care, dementia and reflexology, although the basic VRT techniques taught at this seminar can be adapted to all ages and conditions. VRT has a major application for effectively treating people in hospices, sports teams and is used extensively in the workplace. Case histories will be used to illustrate techniques as well as reflexology demonstrations on attendees. Vertical Reflex Therapy has a positive role in helping people living with cancer in the most constructive sense as well as working alongside those who have a short terminal diagnosis. Lynne Booth has nearly 20 experience as a reflexologist and for 14 years has held a clinic in the St Monica Trust, a pioneering, innovative residential complex for over 400 older people in In the case of cancer and palliative care in general, VRT has a particular role to play where the hands and feet are worked in a semi-weight-bearing mode as many clients are too infirm to stand. This seminar will show you how to work the hands of a client who is bedridden and VRT techniques can even be applied to the hands as they are pressed gently downwards onto a hard surface place beside them on the bed – such as a book or small tray. Many cancer clients, often at the terminal stage, are suffering from multiple pathologies with disrupted sleep patterns. You will be taught the profound passive Diaphragm Rocking technique on the hands to help sleep and relaxation. VRT’s therapeutic response is often quicker and a possible reason is that, anatomically, all nerves in the hands and feet (and therefore the actual reflexes), become sensitised and more responsive when weight-bearing. VRT is usually combined with full classical sessions but clients can be also be offered shorter comprehensive 15-25 minute treatments that include VRT as well as first aid and self-help applications.
There will be opportunities in practical sessions to experiment with some useful VRT techniques so please bring a small towel.
£40 seminar fee for AoR members and £75 for non-AoR members. |

Description: This seminar will provide attendees a hands on introduction to this wonderful specialised reflexology treatment, which can be used on women during some of the most important times in their lives. Attendees will experience how to adapt their treatments, learn some new points, areas to focus on, contraindications to treatments plus some theory revision and new maternity theory ideas. There will be a lot of practical aspects to the day so attendees should come prepared accordingly. Workshop Outline: • Fertility problems – male and female – causes and problems Pregnancy is one of the most exciting times of change for a woman, but doesn’t come without it’s problems. Maternity Reflexology is tailored to care for the mind, body and spirit of mum and new baby. This can start as early as preconception, and then is carried out through pregnancy, labour and into the post-natal period. Reflexology is a safe and practical therapy for pregnant women when delivered by a qualified and experienced practitioner. Treatments can help to energise, harmonise and balance giving a healthier pregnancy. It has also been said that it can help give a shorter, easier labour/delivery and recovery after the birth. This seminar will go through how to adapt reflexology treatments around pregnancy, about all contraindications and physiological changes associated with pregnancy. Participants will gain a greater understanding about how reflexology can be safely used for all women during this important time. Many midwives and other birth professionals are now incorporating reflexology into their practice as a gentle and effective way of helping relax the labouring woman, to ease pain and calm anxiety - either on its own or alongside conventional methods of pain relief. Description: Auricular Therapy (Reflexology of the Ear) Introduction to a powerful approach for balancing body energies. Auricular Therapy is recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO), due to its safety and simplicity. This seminar and workshop is aimed at the professional practitioner, to provide quality enhancement training which is part of any post graduate education course, this is to ensure best practice at all times for the professional person. It is most important that a practitioners knowledge is updated to augment their skills and techniques. This workshop is intensive and designed to add to the practitioners performance and proficiency in skill and touch and can be utilised straight away into practice. When the affected area is pressed during treatment the tendons relax and the blood circulation to the corresponding area improves, enhancing tissue healing and it is said to cause a release within the central nervous system of endorphins which act as natural analgesics or as a counter-irritant to the origional pain.
